9x21 reloading die set used for 9x19 reloading

I ve been reloading 9mm for a few months now, I was checking on my dies before loading to make sure nothing had loosen up from last session and I noticed 9x21 written on my resizing die. I purchased this Hornady set from a Calbelas that had just opened in West HarT, CT a while ago. the 3 die set was on sale and I thought oh I'll reload 9mm some day. I still think the outer packaging stated it would load all the 9mm versions. I have the hard box but it only states 9x21. Of just recent, I started on my "found on the ground" federal 9mm cases, I load by head stamp. this is the first time its happen to me but 2 rounds didn't hold the tip when chambering and the tip was pushed in the case. 1 round I couldnt push in by hand and thought maybe it had just got by my checks however the 2nd round I pushed against my bench and it went right in without trouble. before anyone says it I already have order an undersized 9mm re-sizing Lee die from EGW, but My question is this shouldn't 9x21 set be able to load 9x19 without issues? 3388

Yes. Your Hornady set is fine for 9x19 aka 9mm Luger. It sounds to me like you had a crimp issue. Lots of things can cause a too-loose crimp: simply not having the crimp set tight enough in the first place, the die itself loosens during loading process and backs out a little, or some of the cases have a thinner wall than those for which the crimp was originally set. Since you are loading by head stamp, the latter isn’t likely unless you didn’t re-set the crimp when moving from one headstamp lot to another.
Maybe you can re-check your dies next go-round and be certain that the crimp is holding true throughout the session.

LEo21 what Reloading press are you loading on?

If it is the Hornady Lnl, sometimes the Die will work loose from the press or the "O ring" can be worn and not hold the die in locked in place.

I've had to replace some of mine. Went to Harbor Freight and bought an O Ring kit so I would have extras
