so far they all had 1 flash hole like normal brass with the one that had a projectile still in the case not sure what bent the pins the other 2 times. I still have another 1700 cases to go through

Hi Critter, I have bent decapping rods and pins on 5.56 brass, using my Rcbs universal decapping die. Something as simple as a deformed case mouth, or a berdan primer, bullet inside of case, being in a hurry not getting the seated all the way into the shell holder. I learned the hard way.

I now, prior to any brass being deprimed, I sort all my brass out by head stamp, military vs civilian brass. While sorting brass I use a small handheld flashlight to inspect the inside of the cases looking for any obstructions and berdan primers, look for damage cases mouths, or dents, etc. Once that is done then I deprime the cases.

Look at Mighty Armory dies, for there 223 depriming die. They are just about bomb proof. I'm ordering one tomorrow. Hope this helps.

heya Reb this was a mighty armory decapper die that I broke the pins on. I was running through knocking out old primers and was getting it done until I ran into some strange things like a bullet still in the case but pushed in,(didn't notice until the 1st bent pin but by then it knocked it loose ) I liked the mighty armory dies so much bought the sizing dies for 223 and 300 AAC too

Good Morning Critter, I must have missed the part about it being a MA die. That or I had a senior moment! 😁 lol.

I went the MA website but their out of stock on the 300 Blkout die. I'm ordering the decapping Swage die kit. Also looking at the 223, 308, 9, 40, and 45 acp dies, not all at once, but as funds allow.

Those pins are hard to break, If you feel they are hard as you pull press arm down, stop and don't go any further. Check to see what is going on. We and myself included sometimes want to push harder to make it happen but resist that temptation. so you don't bend those pins. And those pins need to be tite! Handle with care my friend!
