Cleaning/Load Development

I have been working on a couple different loads and somebody made a suggestion and I'd like some input. I am working on 300 WinMag loads - Accubond/H100 and Grand Slam/H4831SC. I have been working these up independently of one another and I shoot them at the range on the same day. Somebody suggested I should clean the bore and then only shoot/develop one of those loads at a time. He suggested that shooting two different bullets and powders in the same bore may negatively impact load development. He suggested I clean the bore then only shoot one of these combinations and that if I want to shoot the other combination, I should start with a clean bore. I guess he is saying if you don't do that, you contaminate the bore with fouled powder which could negatively impact your results. Does what I am asking make sense?

Yes it does make sense. For me, after I clean my bore I always shoot about 3 fouling shots. You can clean the bore each time but I would recommend a few fouling shots each time. One product I recommend is Montana Bore Conditioner... it pre-fouls the bore. Use that after you clean the bore each time before you foul your rifle. Maybe Gt. Morrow will chime in on this.

So what you're saying Highboy is that I should concentrate on, say, the Accubond/H1000 load and that's it? Meaning, clean the gun now, foul, then shoot nothing but that combination until I am ready to clean and move on to something else? Instead of shooting the AB/H1000 rounds, letting the barrel cool, and then trying some other recipe with different bullets and powder on the same range trip?

I'll check into that pre-foul. I have wanted to try their products for a long time but have some Bore Tech stuff I don't want to waste. I hear Montana's products are really good.

No, try both. Try both through the fouled rifle and then try both starting fresh. Compare your results.

I agree with Highboy. Stay with one powder and bullet combination while doing your load development. Adding a different powder/bullet combination to the mix can and will skew your results and further foul the barrel, there by creating negative results on your groups with possibly effecting POA and POI on target. Resulting inconsistent groups opening up the group size ie: affects accuracy. Hope this helps. 🤠👋
