My 44-40

I’ve really been enjoying this Uberti “Henry Original”. My pet load so far is the Lee 429-200 RF cast bullet, powder coated, over 6.9 grains of Unique. It goes out at 1050fps with great accuracy and very little recoil. It’s a massive rifle, and stupid-simple construction. Everyone who shoots it remarks about what an easy shooter it is. I bought it used, and don’t regret a penny of it. 44-40 is interesting to reload, and way cheaper than factory ammo. Factory rounds are a buck/per. Cast reloads-- about 8 cents/round less brass.)What’s not to like?

I agree with you about the cartridge. Not so much about the rifle.

While I don't have a Henry, I've got two toggle 44/40s - a 1866 and a 1873. The 73 is a full-size rifle, and it's just too big and heavy to tote around (although its size really does cut down on the recoil).

Also have this pair of 1892s, and while they may kick a scosh more, they're much sweeter guns.

Definitely get a companion pistol. That cartridge is very nice out of a pistol.

the Uberti is definitely a heavy mutha to pack around. But I don’t hunt with it. The action is probably the smoothest of all my levers. I really like shooting it. With the cartridge I described above, ayno recoil 😂 My biggest gripe about the model is the bullet follower. But, it’s otherwise fun to shoot.
